Before and after cedar fence staining in Nolensville, TN showing weathered wood restoration

A deck or fence that's been properly stained by professionals is one of the most impactful exterior improvements you can make to your property. The transformation is dramatic — weathered, gray wood becomes rich, warm, and beautiful again — and the protection it provides extends the life of your wood by years, sometimes decades. Deck and fence staining is our top-performing service because customers see immediate, stunning results and the investment pays back in longevity and home value.

The difference between a professional staining job and a DIY one comes down almost entirely to preparation. Applying stain over dirty, weathered, or damp wood is the single biggest cause of premature stain failure. We begin every staining project with a thorough cleaning — full deck wash, wood brightener application, and complete dry time assessment. The wood needs to be genuinely clean, properly pH-balanced, and completely dry for stain to penetrate and bond correctly. Skipping or rushing any of these steps produces a finish that peels within one season.

We offer three categories of stain finish, each appropriate to different situations. Transparent stains show the maximum wood grain and color — beautiful on high-quality wood but they require more frequent reapplication as they provide less film thickness. Semi-transparent stains balance grain visibility with added color and UV protection — our most popular option for cedar and pressure-treated pine decks. Solid stains provide the most complete coverage, UV protection, and durability — ideal for older wood or fences where you want consistent color and maximum protection. We'll walk through the options with you and recommend what makes sense for your specific wood and exposure.

Tennessee's climate is tough on exterior wood. The intense summer UV from long, sunny days bleaches and breaks down wood fibers rapidly. High summer humidity drives moisture deep into wood grain, creating the conditions for mold and rot. Then winter freeze-thaw cycling stresses joints and fasteners. Quality deck stain with proper UV inhibitors and water repellents addresses all three threats simultaneously. The best staining products we use are designed specifically for the challenging climate conditions of the American South — they outperform generic products significantly in longevity testing.

The results we produce for our customers are genuinely striking. Before-and-after photos of deck staining jobs are among the most dramatic transformations in exterior home improvement. A deck that looked ready for demolition — gray, cracked-looking, weathered — becomes a rich, warm outdoor living space that homeowners are proud of. We've had customers tell us that staining their deck made them actually want to spend time outdoors again. That's the result we're going for every single time: a finish that looks professional, lasts multiple seasons, and makes you glad you invested in your outdoor space.

For those who want the highlights - did concrete wash/seal, house wash, and fence clean/strip, and stain. I would hire again. When we replace our deck or need a future house wash, he will be who I cal. For those who want a bit more detail - - - - I called several potential vendors/companies to take several jobs (clean home siding; pressure wash and seal driveway, front door area, and concrete pad area; clean, strip, and re-stain fence). They each provided various types of bids mostly not designate with costs per task. Wesley answered when I called; shared a good time to reconnect. He scheduled and planned for each task. What I appreciate most about our first call, he asked several detailed questions to really understand our needs vs. it being a cookie cutter, rinse and repeat which other potential vendors/companies interactions felt like. Obviously 2021 has been an unusual year between cost of materials, availability of contractors, and weather. So it did take some time for all of the tasks to get done. Every aspect of the work was well done. Every communication was professional and focused on key aspects of the work. Wesley completed the house, driveway, and related concrete work on one visit; timed with the weather such that he could return to complete the sealing work. For the fence, he took great care as to the pros and cons of painting vs. staining. He brought sample color wheels for us to choose from noting pros and cons of each brand and color based on our fence - its age, color, condition. When the fence was stripped, it looked almost completely new. Then intermittent rain came. He called/texted often about weather, came by several times until the humidity in the wood was low enough to stain. Our family is super pleased. We highly recommend Wesley and Luffman's Pressure Washing to anyone who wants a kind, honest, communicative experience in getting your very own job well done!
